Hello Cubs fans, it’s Dennis Sopic Chief Engineer at WLTL and life Long Cubs Fan. The cubs this season went 97-65 finishing in third place in the entire MLB. First year manager Joe Maddon had a 24 game turn around this season. That Might be impressive but the real story this year is what they have been able to accomplish this offseason.
On December 3, 2015 the cubs agreed to terms with LHP Rex Brothers on a one-year contract. December 8, 2015 the cubs Agreed to terms with RHP John Lackey on a two-year contract and INF Ben Zobrist on a four-year contract. The Next move the cubs made was to Trade INF Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees for RHP Adam Warren and a player to be named. The trade for Starlin Castor opened up 40 million dollars cap space. With the Extra 40 million dollars the cubs where able to go after the hottest player of the offseason Jason Hayward. On December 11th 2015 Jason Hayward decided to take his talents to the North side and signed with the cubs for an 8 year deal worth 184 million dollars. Rumors around the MLB say Hayward declined deals of 200 million dollars plus from the Nationals, Angles, and Cardinals. Hayward stated he was excited about “the rebuilding job by Theo Epstine and Jed Hoyer”. This Season is shaping up to be the “next year” Cubs fans have been dreaming about.
