Odds are at some point in your life you’ve heard the phrase “Did you know it’s National
[insert some obscure object or action] Day?!?” and most likely you had no clue then quickly proceeded to forget about it. With anything as simple as National Waffle Day(March 20th) to something as obscure and oddly specific as Lima Bean Respect Day(April 20th), these two out of 225 Holidays in the United States alone prove that everyday really is unique. Now all that’s left is trying to fit all of these into your busy schedule, so you don’t forget. So why are there so many random National Holidays? Well it turns out in the 1980s, mostly 1985-86, Congress had a lot of fun, with almost 1 in every 3 laws passed being one of these days. Called the commemorative periods, there were so many passed that the House of Representatives eventually had to put it to an end. But we still ended up with a solid amount of interesting Holidays to give us a reason to party. Some of my favorite being: 1. International Axe Throwing Day (June 13th) 2. World Naked Gardening Day (May 4th) 3. Singles Awareness Day (February 15th) *the rest can be found at http://www.holidayscalendar.com/countries/united-states/ * Mark your calendars! Heat up the waffle iron! At this rate, you should have no problem finding something to do any day of the week no matter the time of year; almost everyday is a Holiday so get ready to celebrate it. Have a party, tell a friend, or just celebrate internally. However you chose to celebrate is up to you, but at least now you can’t say we didn’t warn you.
