This past Sunday, two heavyweights matched up in a battle that could decide the fate of the 2025/26 Premier League Season. Manchester City VS Arsenal. Many were curious to see how the two sides on opposite trajectories would fare against each other, and what they witnessed was, despite the result, pure domination.

Manchester City were in clear command of this game from the first whistle. The Citizens opened the scoring in the 16th minute thanks to Rayan Cherki, but the injury-riddled Arsenal struck back two minutes later thanks to a Kai Havertz strike. The game would go back and forth for several minutes until Erling Haaland finally broke through in the 66th minute to give City the lead. Haaland would later get into an 84th-minute scrap with Gabriel Magalhães that would see both receive yellow cards. Despite a late scare from Kai Havertz, the Sky Blues would win and lower the once 10-point gap down to 3 with a game in hand over the Gunners.

The result follows a disastrous run for Arsenal. In the past weeks, the Gunners have lost the EFL Cup to Manchester City, 2-0, and have been eliminated from the FA Cup in the Quarterfinal Stage by Bournemouth, 2-1. In the Champions League, Arsenal have been criticized for their lack of bite against underdog opponents, netting only one goal in two fixtures against Sporting Club Portugal. They are set to face a battle-tested Atletico Madrid side, and with injuries to key defensive pieces like Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Mikel Merino, their already struggling attack (which is still missing Bukayo Saka) will no longer have a brilliant defense to keep it alive. The worst part for Arsenal fans is that, not only is it likely that they will be eliminated from the Champions League, but they may even lose the domestic league in the coming weeks.

Manchester City now has a game in hand, with only a 3-point gap separating them. City are set to face relegation candidate Burnley, followed by Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and 4th place Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Arsenal have Newcastle this weekend, and then Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace. While Arsenal have the weaker strength of schedule, they are nonetheless at risk of bottling the league once again.
