WLTL's Fantasy Football League

With NFL Week 1 on the horizon, let's take a peek at WLTL's very own fantasy football league, and where each team looks heading into the opening week of football.

AJ VS Andrew

I am set to face off against Andrew in Week 1. I'm confident that Baker Mayfield will produce a strong performance against division rival Atlanta; however, my running back room leaves much to be desired. Breece Hall was auto-drafted to my team, and I am trying to get a decent trade set up for him to leave. Hall is a very competent running back; however, the presence of Justin Fields with this Jets team will steal some of his yards and lead to a dip in performance this year. Andrew's team is a powerhouse, with many fantasy staples like A.J. Brown, Kyler Murray, James Cook, and Ceedee Lamb. He also has the standout Broncos Defense to supplement the team, and overall, his unit will be a stalwart of the league this year. I think this matchup will start close, but will surely turn into a runaway in favor of Andrew.
Zoe VS Paxton

Zoe and Paxton will be facing each other this week. Zoe has a solid roster on paper; however, there is one great weakness in this roster. The only option on defense being the Patriots, a decent roster on paper, will surely cost her this week, as they have to defend Geno Smith and the Raiders in Week 1, a game which I predict will be a wash for the silver and black. On Paxton's side, she has a similar hole in an otherwise solid roster. At Flex, options are limited for Paxton, and she chose to start Bhayshul Tuten of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In a crowded depth chart, I personally don't trust any of the Jaguars' running backs to perform against competition. With Keon Coleman sitting on the bench, unlike Zoe, who has no fix within the roster for her problem, Paxton needs to make some substitutions before the games begin.
Carter VS Jed

The only 50-50 split of the week, Carter and Jed have two very evenly matched teams for the opening games of the NFL season. Both teams are going to be powerhouses in the season, but this week will be decided by the wide receivers. All four receivers are known underperformers, and only one finds themselves on a playoff team. This matchup will go down to the wire, but I trust Carter's unit to get the victory this week
Max VS Joe

The matchup between Max and Joe will be determined by how well Joe's team can make up for his quarterback. Dak Prescott is one of the most volatile quarterbacks in the NFL, and while there are some believers in his play, he is nowhere near the level of Lamar Jackson, and he is also facing off against an Eagles defense that stuffed Patrick Mahomes 40-6 in the Super Bowl before he scored some garbage time points. While the rest of Joe's roster looks solid, I simply cannot see him pulling out the victory this week.
Emmet VS Mr. T

This round between Mr. T and Emmet should be a solid matchup. Mr. T's QB room is in a tough situation, having to pick between Josh Allen playing against a new-look Ravens defense or Caleb Williams against the Vikings. On Emmet's side, he is counting on Christian McCaffery to have a big bounce-back season after his injury. While that is not a bad bet, it's worth mentioning that much of the 49ers team is still recovering from injury, including their offensive line, with 2 injuries to 2 key guards. This game should be a tight one, but I think Mr. T will barely come away with the victory.
Margot (Bye)

This leaves us with Margot to conclude the week. I'm intrigued to see how she does on the Bye, as this is a team that has the makings of a Top 3 roster; however, several things need to go right for her, specifically at quarterback. With a QB room consisting of J.J. McCarthy and Brock Purdy, she'll need either J.J. to live up to the hype that Vikings fans and staff have for him, or the 49ers to come back from their injuries in similar form to their 2023 team. We'll see how this week fares for her.
