Back to the main topic of the night! 

Twas the night before Lyons Township High School Homecoming! And everyone is wondering how to be prepared? Right??

I was thinking about dances and how they can be nerve wrecking. Especially if it's your first time!

Questions Like:

        - How do I act?

         - Who's going to be there?

         - What do I wear?

      - How do I dance?

        And then YOU realize...

 

    "I CAN'T DANCE!!!"

Well, it's a good thing you can read! Since now I'm going to answer it on UP!

SO... You're Going to Homecoming?

What do I wear? Typically, people will say wear what you feel comfortable in! To which I say wear something that looks nice. Nothing too formal, but definitely not sweatpants. At Homecoming people tend to wear shorter dresses or a suit! My best advice for later in the night, if you have long hair is to carry a hair tie with you for MULTIPLE reasons...

Mostly, because you will get hot from all the dancing! And if you have long hair, keep reading, or else you'll find out the consequences of not bringing a hair tie.

Oh Me?

Well, thank you for asking!! Personally, for Homecoming, I will be wearing a rose gold pink dress! The HIGHEST heels I own (side note +5 points if your heels are sparkly) and the biggest SMILE on my face!

Homecoming is meant to be Fun!! So have it be lighthearted! Don't over stress on making plans with your friends. Live in the moment, go with the flow, and everything finds its way to work itself out!

    Wait!! 

                How do I act at Homecoming? 

                                                    DO I Dance?? 

                        HOW DO YOU DANCE???

Take 5 deep breaths. I will tell you. Stand up. Put your feet together, have one arm in the air, and then jump.

As long as you can do that dance move at Homecoming you're set. 😐 

PERSONALLY! I was not informed of that dance move (it was not my style). I like to dance; therefore, you can guess what I did!

I danced!! The WHOLEEEEE night... 

Before I share my little first Homecoming, freshman Sarah story! I have to tell you my 2nd PIECE OF ADVICE (its funnnnn)! 

My advice to you is to go and find anyone in the room and ask them to dance! Doesn't matter if they say NO! You can try once, then twice, and even when you reach person number 10... 

Maybe you just needed to ask 11 times! 

Eventually, someone will tell you yes!

And if it is a no on the 11th try, DANCE BY YOURSELF. In life, as you get older, you come to realize...  "Wow I'm a pretty cool person!"

Then one day you'll find other coolios that will want to dance with you!

BUT until you reach that day, and you find yourself dancing alone; You can just think,

"At least I never got my hair caught on a guy's jacket while dancing!" 

That is a very BIG puddle almost a RIVER that you just dodged... Awkwardness at its finest is a specialty I am quite acquainted with. 😉

Cause that ladies and gentlemen is a very awkward situation to leave. When you decide to walk one way, and then he goes the other... Yikes. 😬

Which leads me to my next point.

What do I do if I feel awkward at Homecoming?

Well, if you manage to get your hair caught. Congratulations we have something in common! So do what I did! Sacrifice the hair, smile, and then nod yourself away from the vicinity. 

It'll only be a couple of strands and it's the quickest solution to get out of that mess. 🙈

OH WELL!

Besides my own mishaps. If you do start to feel like maybe you're not meant to be there. I want you to quicky shake your hands, then your arms, and then shake your head. Cause that thought needs to leave your body ASAP. 

You belong. Doesn't matter what you look like, what you wear, how you dance, or what others might say. You're there to experience Homecoming for the first time! 

Is it going to be perfect? 

In its own way yes! But not because everything went according to plan. But because you let go and had fun. 

In all honesty, perfect is boring and overplanned. So rather than spending your time trying to make perfect scenarios where you look and behave perfectly at the dance, choose to let your true self shine through! From your outfit to your mannerisms, let yourself be you! Do what will make you smile and your heart feel full of love. 

REFLECTION TIMEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Don't be afraid of your first dance! I promise it can only be as fun as you decide it will be!

Even if you do end up doing something quote on quote embarrassing, at least you get a funny story afterwards. 

Along with that, it's good to have these experiences! One day you'll find yourself bonding over these stories with likeminded people! Aka, a new best friend!!!

I can't promise that they will be the ones also getting their hair caught, but more than likely they will be the ones capturing that moment with a photo. 

And like the old saying I hold dear to my heart,  "Take a photo it'll make the moment last longer" became a motto in my world!😑✌

Take many photos during the night (and think of me because I reminded you hehe!) It'll be some of your best memories from high school!
