Your’s Truly: Why Noticing Matters

Hey Tru-Crew!
I got a question for you! Have you ever been in a situation, where you are talking to someone and they randomly bring up something you mentioned once to them weeks ago!!
Then you're standing there trying to recall ever mentioning that to them! Well that has happened to me…
Right off the bat I’m thinking: "How frequently do I overshare?”
When maybe I should start thinking… ”How frequently am I forgetting to pay attention to the little details that make others' lives feel full?”
I took that question and used it to change my perspective. I started to pay more attention to what others say. I started to see how certain words can slightly change a person's facial expression. Or if their energy shifts from a topic we are discussing.
How someone slowly starts to pull away from a conversation. After seeing these behaviors it gets funny, because at the same time you realize how you do the same things.
Instead of trying to constantly try and contribute to a conversation. Try and observe. I did it with the goal of seeing my friends, family, and peers from a new lens.
I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night but I am able to remember which dog breed was mean to your toy poodle. When they ask me how I remember it's simply because: You told me so.

Notice how I place these flowers on my blog…
These flowers are very pretty…
And it’s really crazy because I actually own a vase…
But the vase has no flowers. (HINT HINT)
To Notice is to Care
Plan and simple. And I’m not saying ‘oh you forgot once so now you don’t qualify in caring for them’. That's not my point.
Even if you are constantly forgetting, it's not that you're a bad friend.
You just don’t care enough!
And that's for you to decide if you’re okay with that. Note that not everything someone tells you is extremely memorable, but at least one detail should stick if you see them all the time.
Be Selective With Your Words
My mom always tells me, “Sarah, not everything you think should be said out loud.”
Which is true!
I think about so many things like:
Why is the clock a circle and not a square? Or, how many people in class are also thinking about what others are thinking about right now?
So I promise I don’t share everything that pops into my head!
But!!!
I do share the things I know will make an impact on someone's day. When I notice a classmate has chosen a different style than their regular day to day look. I compliment them! It’s not a meaningless complement if it has the intent of uplifting them. No matter the circumstance, I chose to be kind.
Sometimes You Don’t Want to be Noticed:
I know that's for sure! I was informed how I am very entertaining to look at during class. For context my friends are on the other side of the room. So they tell me:
“Sarah, I thought you were going to eat that paper!” (It was using a tissue to dab away my lip liner since I put too much on.)
Hmmm…
- I’m thinking others are paying WAYYYYY to close attention to my actions.
Which is real because my teacher had to tell me to put away my calculator cause I was using it as a mirror in my English class…
My bad!
My main point is besides the moments you want to go unnoticed there are more moments you want noticed. I’m not far off from saying how everyone wants to be seen. To know that they are doing the right things, and will not only make a change but be the change.
SO do the little things to help be the change:
Complement a Stranger
Say, “Hello”
Smile because you thought what someone said was funny
Try to make conversation with a classmate
Don’t let your own thoughts cloud up the message someone wants to tell you
”How frequently are YOU forgetting to pay attention to the little details that make others' lives feel full?”
I promise you’re not the only one to fall victim to not noticing. It’s a working process to pay attention. But it’s worth it. Getting to see the look on someone's face when you remember something truly meaningful to them is what makes it pay off.
You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown:
On the topic of noticing! I went to see the Charlie Brown Show at Lyons Township! The first thought, without any biases, is that these kids on this stage are so beyond talented. I was very shocked by the singing, I went both nights to see the different casts. Danny Callahan was the opening night Charlie Brown, and Thomas King was the closing night Charlie Brown.
Overall, if I had to pick a favorite out of the two I don’t think it would be possible. In each cast,(there were two separate casts) they had phenomenal vocals and harmonies, the two music directors David Hartley, and John Musick collaborated to make the singing perfect! My view point being in the audience, I noticed how all members focused on their best attributes to sound cohesive and together in all harmonic melodies.
Whichever cast was not the main one for the night they were the background characters which was fun to see the different personas on stage!!
My favorite scene of the night was when Linsday Kilarski playing the role of Sally Brown, told her little brother Linus how her hand is normal but when you put your 5 fingers together and curl it up it's a force to be reckoned with.
I thought that the presentation of that line was very funny.
Amazing job LT Theatre I will be there next show!!
My Challenge:
I challenge you to pay attention to those around you. Are you willing to learn about the gestures of those around you?
It's worth it when you see your little sister delusionally singing her homework frustrations into her computer. Then right after do an impersonation of what appears to be a girl with too much caffeine in her system. (SHE DOESN'T DRINK COFFEE)
With that being said!
Keep it loud! Keep it weird! And keep it YOURS TRULY!💞
With Love,
Sarah Lazich 🤍
