Holiday Film Review: Spirited

Updated: Dec 15, 2022

You would think Rotten Tomatoes having a 82% audience rating would mean the movie Spirited would be well done, well I think otherwise.

Spirited is a spin on Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. It captured the behind the scenes work of the ghost of Christmas past, present and future. Will Farrell plays the ghost of Christmas present and Scrooge while Ryan Reynolds plays the character the ghosts visit. While it is a new spin on the book, I just did not enjoy it.

When I went to watch the movie I was not expecting a musical style movie but, that was what I got. Musical movies have the potential to be good but I feel this one is not it.

Don’t get me wrong, I usually love movies where they sing and dance but I think this is not the movie for it. In the advertising, I was not aware of all the singing there would be. One thing that added to my dislike for it is the auto tune they used. It distracted from the songs and made the movie overall less enjoyable.

Also, the movie just kept playing. I think the singing and dancing added to the longness of the Movie. Lastly, I didn’t really enjoy the story line, it could have been executed much better. I also was able to predict many things in the movie.

While some people may enjoy feeling like a fortune-teller, I like movies that are less predictable. That did not stop me from watching the movie and is not one of the main reasons for me disliking the movie but something I thought was still worth mentioning.
